Listen to how this academic dean earned his degree while traveling both domestically and internationally.

Video Transcript

My name is John Sullivan and I'm a graduate of a Ph.D. business program. I completed a four year program in less than three years. It opened a number of doors for me. When I finished, I was in the academic field and was working in a traditional brick and mortar university. I was the first to complete an online Ph.D. at my school.

My typical day finished at 7:00 P.M. for dinner, and by 9:00 P.M. I'd be online. That was when I was home. Working for the Federal Government as well as after I retired frequently involved travel. The university that I worked for had five foreign campuses around the world. As the academic dean, even as the graduate dean, I was asked to attract business in other parts of the world. My typical day on the road was finishing my business schedule. My biggest quest was to find Internet access. I was thrilled when it was better than dial-up. I would get online and work for three or four hours. If the connection was bad I would download the file, work on it in my hotel room, and upload my assignments in the morning.

Online education is something everyone should consider, and the reason I say that is that it affords flexibility while at the same time provides the academic rigor and expectations of a traditional brick and mortar university.
