Real Estate Courses

In this course, students will learn the training necessary to handle a career in real estate law including special aspects of real estate, real estate transactions and closings and ownership interests in real estate.

Real estate law can be very challenging, because there are many documents to process, fill out and complete -- whether one chooses to go into residential or commercial real estate. Students will learn how to assist an attorney in collecting necessary information and filling the paperwork in the appropriate manner.

Paralegals have a lot of responsibility and many states allow the paralegal to close a deal. However, some states feel having paralegals do this can result in people asking for their advice, which would be an unauthorized practice of law according to the legal system. On the other hand, some states feel that once a document is at the closing stages, nothing a paralegal says can be mistaken for legal advice.

Course Objectives

  • By the end of the course, students will be able to compare basic types of real property ownership and distinguish between public and private restrictions on the use of real property.
  • Participants will outline the essential elements of a real estate contract and explain the types of deeds and their required elements.
  • Students will also evaluate methods used to finance real estate transactions and methods used to conduct title examinations and closings. They will also draft common forms and documents used in real estate transactions and examine the potential ethical problems that can arise in a real estate practice.
