Associate In Medical Office Management

This program was created to prepare interested students for an entry-level position in a medical office. The degree program focuses primarily on helping students acquire knowledge and develop abilities in clerical and administrative procedures. A 90-hour, unpaid externship in a physician’s office or clinic is required for a student to graduate.

Graduates of this program might find themselves overseeing duties such as appointment management and scheduling, medical records management, insurance processing and coding, billing and the fundamentals of financial management. A medical office assistant must display professionalism, know how to communicate and provide instruction to patients as well.

By the end of this program, students will be proficient in both the administrative and clerical functions required of a medical assistant. Students should also know how to integrate knowledge from biological and behavioral sciences as the basis for allied health practices.

Students will learn how to exemplify professional behaviors as defined by the discipline of medical assisting. They will also use the highest standards of legal and ethical values in medical assisting practice.
