It is important as a private security professional to understand the legal system and the difference between criminal and civil law and how it pertains to you. There have been countless changes to, not only the law since September 11, 2001, but also to the entire legal system and the basic technologies used on a daily basis by private security. It is your job to stay up to date on everything in this fast-paced and ever-changing environment. You will be expected to have a thorough knowledge of classes of crimes, liabilities, case law development and tort law.
As a student, you will learn about all these things as well as how security interfaces with the criminal and civil legal systems. The demands are high in this field for individuals who possess a strong knack for adapting to new technologies and who are well versed in the application of security surveys, risk management procedures and the equipment available to you to protect your client’s assets. We will also explore the relationship of the law to private security, particularly as it relates to the powers and liabilities of the industry, and how to secure the perimeter of premises with different types of barriers and lighting systems.
