Property is all around us and affects many areas of our lives. Property is also an important concept in business, as it can define the worth of a company, it’s ability to make a profit and function correctly, and its liabilities. A bachelor degree in business administration with an emphasis in property management should teach students the rigors of business along with a foundation in the essentials and complexities of property. The business part of the education may focus on sales, marketing, operations and management along with the necessary aspects of finance, accounting, and quantitative analysis. For the study of property management, students could learn the basics of contracts, issues with regulation and government, research, effective communication, commercial property issues, personal property issues, and residential property issues.
Although graduates of the business administration program may be suited for a variety of traditional business careers, the emphasis in property management may specifically prepare them to take on responsibilities in fields such as personal property. The management of personal property will deal with assets, often business assets that represent fixed, sunk costs such as beds in a hospital or airplanes for an airline. Graduates may also find careers as commercial property managers, which deal with commercial real estate such as offices. Residential property management is another area suited for graduates, and it deals with dwellings of the general populace.
