Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies

The Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies is comparable to the Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts or the Bachelor of Science in General Studies. All of these degrees focus on providing students with an education that promotes a broad curriculum with courses in social sciences, English and mathematics. Students who know that they will be going on to graduate studies in law or political science often enroll in this degree program. It is also perfect for individuals who are uncertain what career they want to pursue because it provides a little taste of everything. A liberal arts or liberal studies degree might also be of use to individuals who want to enter a career as a writer or editor.

Some colleges offer a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and not a Bachelor of Science. You may be wondering what the difference is between these two. At many colleges a Bachelor of Science degree requires more technical courses (more science and math) and a Bachelor of Arts offers the option to take more elective courses. For the most part, however, a liberal studies major indicates that students will take a variety of courses focusing on reasoning, critical thinking, and communication skills. Most colleges also allow students to devote their studies to a particular interest area.
