Bachelor of Arts in Animation

Animation involves time-honed techniques in drawing and artistic vision so as to create the illusion of movement through graphics. Most modern animation involves the use of computers, so students looking to become animators will be taught a slew of computer software packages and techniques. Traditional drawing best practices will be imparted to students so as to form the foundation for learning animation. Then advanced computer modeling in both 2D and 3D environments will be taught along with the principles of animation so that students will develop a fully formed sense of perspective and motion for all applications. Aspects such as lighting, editing, imaging, and texturing are also important for an understanding of animation. Lastly, students will learn good design sensibilities and concepts from disciplines such as color theory so that they will be able to tackle whole projects.

Skilled animators will be in high demand in a world that is increasingly visual. And in a digitalized world, specialized computer software skills will also be necessary. Graduates of the program can look forward to becoming broadcast graphic artists, video post-production artists, or flash and HTML web animators and designers. Careers in Hollywood designing motion graphics and jobs working on films and commercials are all possibilities with a degree in animation.
