Individual nations and their businesses are fast converging into a global marketplace of ideas and products. As the world becomes increasingly connected, all aspects of society are affected, and so a bachelor of arts in global studies is an interdisciplinary field. Students will need to understand politics, cultural identity, economics, technology, and history with respect to how these differences impact the global society. In addition, there are aspects of race, environment, ecology, religion, disease, and gender that depend on their locations in the world. Understanding the differences between nations and peoples will help students of global studies to better unite people from around the world as well as to help find solutions to mutual problems or misunderstandings. Students will obtain training in analysis of many complex issues as well as a broad knowledge base in order to place those issues into context.
As an expert in global issues and the unique aspects of various cultures, students will be trained to understand and cooperate with people, making them excellent candidates for careers in human resources management, especially with multi-cultural, multi-national workforces. Students with a global studies background can also go on to become important in helping to shape social and public policy, work for state and federal governments, and deal with immigration. Additionally, careers in teaching and journalism are also good choices for students with a global studies education.
