Bachelor of Art in Social Science-Geography

Geography is a large area of study that deals with the terrain, inhabitants, and nature of the Earth. All of Earth’s features are open for analysis in the field of geography, but geography as a social science is primarily concerned with human geography. Human geography is more specifically involved in the affairs of people, culture, and human activities. Trends are important in human geography and will be studied in detail by any students that obtain the degree. Such trends as population growth, immigration, national influences, and cultural influences will be analyzed to determine future patterns as well as their possible effects. The study of such effects is an important part of human geography and underlies its more qualitative nature over that of the more quantitative science of traditional geography.

Those with degrees in the social science of geography will be well-trained in liberal arts and prepared for many of the same careers that a traditional liberal arts degree entails. Those that continue their education along the lines of human geography will be able to find careers as researchers, professors, or sociologists. Additionally, there are opportunities such as a human and geographic planning which involves studying trends and applying their conclusions to human development.
