Organizational management and project management have much in common. Both are concerned with organization, team work, achieving specific goals, and business administration. That is why some universities, allow students who qualify to transfer credits from a project management program to an organizational management program. In many ways, project management is a subset of organizational management. Both involve the study of business, quality, ethics, and organization as it pertains to business and leadership. Many universities also offer the chance to specialize in project management while studying for an overall bachelor’s degree in organizational management. In either case, students can also hope to learn about finance, information science, computer technology, and sound leadership principles.
There are many careers in the world of business that are open to those with a degree in organizational management and/or a specialization in project management. Through critical thinking, analysis, and a deep understanding of operating procedures, careers will be available in quality assurance departments, ensuring that goods and services meet appropriate standards. Knowledge of good organizational principles also qualifies one to work as a business analyst, spotting flaws in the procedures of businesses and in their organizational management policies. The degree is also great for those looking to jump into management at many levels, including operational management and project management.
