BA in Interdisciplinary Studies K-8

Interdisciplinary Studies K through 8 is a specifically designed program that will provide students with useful knowledge for a well-rounded teaching career. The degree is planned to present an engaging environment that involves participation in discussions and the completion of applied knowledge assignments in addition to the standard coursework and examinations. The profession is hands-on, so students obtaining a bachelor’s of art in interdisciplinary studies may be required to demonstrate their abilities by undergoing practice teaching sessions that will be overseen by mentors, as well by producing a teaching portfolio that will prove their professionalism to future employers. The degree usually includes four different areas of study as follows: interdisciplinary studies that will focus on general education and knowledge, foundations of teaching that will grant an understanding of teaching theory in preparation for practical knowledge, effective teaching practices that will bestow proper teaching techniques, and demonstration teaching which involves the hands-on teaching practice.

The degree is ideal for those seeking a career in becoming a certified school teacher trained in general concepts and knowledge. Interdisciplinary studies K through 8 degrees are also planned for those that may already have full time jobs or are just looking for supplementary income. As a result, the degree is well-suited to retired people, those interested in a career change, or substitute teachers.
