An associate of science in interdisciplinary studies and early childhood development is a degree track program designed to prepare future educators of young children (infant to kindergarten) to pursue work in their field. The crucial developmental period in a human’s life between the time of birth and five years of age requires intensive understanding of the intellectual triggers and capacity it can take in order to be reached effectively. These growing minds also require a great deal of patience and creativity on behalf of the instructor, and the techniques must often learn to work in tandem. These innate techniques are often required to be successful as almost any kind of educator, but are especially key factors in early child development because of the sometimes delicate temperament of young children.
Jobs in this field that may be sought with this degree include primarily paraprofessional positions as teachers’ aides and classroom attendants, preschool team leaders, daycare teachers and preschool activity instructors. The scope of work almost exclusively involves working with young children in a learning environment. Literacy, basic mathematics, and social interaction fundamentals are the principal features of focus in the classroom. Graduates may be prepared to initiate classroom activities with centralized themes.
