America is the melting pot of the world, interspersed with cultures from almost every other continent on the globe. As more families settle here, it is becoming increasingly important to diversify our early childhood education approaches. An English language learner (ELL) concentration is a degree path that concentrates a student’s learning track on language comprehension in early childhood. Students are exposed to methodologies behind the fundamentals of human speech and constructs of the English language. Much of the coursework focuses on literacy and why language comprehension and capacity is such a vital piece of society. In addition to academic instruction, many early child education degrees include a field observation component where students are given the opportunity to experience an appropriately-aged classroom.

It is the classroom where the techniques from their coursework will be applied, and its important students understand this application before completing their study. Upon graduation, A.S. holders may be equipped with the knowledge they need to assist in early childhood classrooms in both the private and public sector. In these classrooms, graduates are able to reinforce the linguistic teaching techniques they acquired while earning their degree. Many A.S. holders might elect to also earn the bachelor degree, while others continue their careers in the classroom setting.
