Industrial designers set the design standards for products, technologies, and all kinds of items that people use every day, from furniture to telephones, cameras, and just about any consumer product a person can think of. People who are interested in industrial design and who are just beginning their college career may want to consider seeking an Associate of Arts in Industrial Design degree. This degree is equivalent to the first two years of a bachelor’s degree in industrial design and will give students an introductory level of knowledge in industrial design. Students will become familiar with industry standards and history, as well as being introduced to the latest in 3D modeling technology and techniques. Industrial designers are tasked with solving creative design problems, and must be able to envision workable products that are not only pleasing to look at, but useful and ergonomically comfortable to use. An Associate of Arts in Industrial Design will bring students up to a level of knowledge and skill that will enable them to seek entry-level assistant positions in the field of industrial design. Students who complete the Associate of Arts in Industrial Design may wish to continue their education by seeking a B.A. or B.F.A. in Industrial Design once they receive their AA.
