In today’s global economy, one of the most important facets for every business is the ability to get their message out to their customers. While some businesses deal primarily with individuals who purchase products from them, other companies deal primarily with other companies, offering products or services that help them engage in their business more effectively. Whether a corporation engages in B2C (business to consumer) or B2B (business to business) relations, they need people on staff who know and understand the complex underpinnings of an advertising and public relations campaign. One of the best ways to gain that knowledge is by completing a Master of Arts in Advertising and Public Relations. Graduate programs in advertising and public relations take about two years to complete, and focus on core areas of study within the field such as strategy, relationship management, social media and new technologies, and ethical considerations. Some programs offer internship opportunities during the course of study with local advertising and public relations firms. Additionally, some programs also offer studies in quantitative analysis for development of marketing programs based on research survey methods. While many graduates may move on to work in advertising and public relations firms, it’s important to remember that many corporations have in-house advertising and PR divisions; people who have advertising and PR graduate degrees may work in any field that needs to effectively communicate a sales or public relations message.
