Many people assume that if a person works in the accounting field, they must be a CPA. The fact of the matter is that many people who are not Certified Public Accountants are accountants and bookkeepers, among other related jobs. There are a number of ways to become involved in the accounting field without having to become a CPA. One of the best ways to get started is to seek an Advanced Accounting Undergraduate Certificate. Students who seek an advanced accounting undergraduate certificate will receive education in a number of advanced accounting principles. Students will learn and practice real-life accounting skills and apply them to coursework designed to emulate business situations that occur in real-life. Students will also learn a variety of computer technologies that relate to accounting to help make them more efficient in their work. Some programs require an associate’s degree in a related field, or prerequisite coursework for enrollment. Students who complete an advanced accounting undergraduate certificate will be prepared to pursue numerous areas of the accounting such as auditing, budgeting and control, taxation, or cost accounting. If a student already holds a bachelor’s degree, some colleges allow the coursework in the certificate program to be applied to the required coursework for CPA eligibility. However, not all coursework will necessarily meet the educational requirements; check with your institution for guidelines.
