The Acquisition and Contract Management diploma program is a good option for those who may have prior business experience or education to build upon and would like to veer from their current career path. Professionals who would like to gain education in purchasing processes and managing vendor contracts would also benefit from this program. It is one of the shortest courses of undergraduate study and can take students from a year to a year and a half to complete. Not many colleges have undergraduate diploma programs and even less than that have one specifically in acquisition and contract management. There are a few colleges that offer this program online however, should you not live near an institution that offers it.
This diploma program begins with general business education courses that teach the basics of business including accounting principles and management theories. Students may encounter courses that provide instruction on the details of purchasing, such as how to control supply, how to create purchasing processes, and how to select suppliers. Other topics that may be covered include proper techniques for negotiating pricing and contractual terms, as well as teachings specific to government contracts and acquisition. Many colleges allow students to apply the credit they have earned through the diploma program to an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
