Individuals who want to pursue a career in accounting as a tax or accounting specialist may find an Accounting and Tax Specialist Associate’s degree useful. Although, you may find that an associate degree in just accounting is more commonly offered. Both degree programs often include similar courses in their curriculums, so either should be beneficial if you are looking to enter the world of tax specialty. Many students who graduate with these degrees seek out jobs as bookkeepers, accounting clerks, account receivables/payables specialists and other similar professional roles. Depending on the school, earning this degree may also help to prepare students to take accounting certification exams.
Whether the degree focuses on taxation like the Accounting and Tax Specialist Associate’s or it is a more general accounting two year degree, the programs should have comparable learning objectives. For instance, most schools will teach students how to prepare financial statements and instruct them on how to use common accounting software. More broad skills that colleges focus on are problem solving for accounting issues and both oral and written communication. Also, the program’s curriculum will probably cover up-to-date instruction on tax laws and regulations – state and federal, and the general principles behind accounting and budgeting.
