Advanced Introduction to Information Technology (IT)

This course is designed for students preparing for careers in information technology and approaches its topics from the perspective of professionals in the industry. Course topics include security, network technologies, web development concepts, databases, eCommerce and programming concepts.

Throughout this course, you have examined information technology systems, computer security/privacy, networking, web development, databases, programming, e-commerce and future trends in information technology. Network connections can be either wired or wireless.

A computer network is a collection of computers and hardware that is connected together in order to share hardware, data, software and programs and to facilitate communications electronically. Students will learn the five basic data transmission characteristics, which include analog vs. digital, bandwidth and speed, serial vs. parallel transmission, transmission timing and transmission directions.

Course Objectives

  • By the end of this course, students will be able to examine basic information technology system concepts, identify basic security, privacy, ethical concerns related to information technologies and describe basic concepts of networking, web development, database management, programming and e-commerce. They will also examine future trends in information technology.
