During this program, students learn about web graphic file formats, the use of color on the web, buttons, graphical text, backgrounds and image maps. Some issues involved with using graphics on the web, including graphics quality, file size and resolution will also be looked at. Students learn to use graphics programs to produce appropriate graphics for their web projects and both audio and video multimedia projects.

This course uses the Adobe Studio 8, which contains Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash and Freehand. Students will use Dreamweaver -- which contains an HTML editor and graphical development environment -- as well as Flash.

Course Objectives

• By the end of this course, students will be able to understand and apply the principles of color usage on the Web to graphics and video multimedia, identify web graphic formats and the characteristics of each.
• Students will also walk away with an understanding of the uses of graphical text, buttons, backgrounds and image maps and be able to identify the types of multimedia available for use on the web. Participants will also create multimedia for the web using multimedia applications, such as Shockwave and Flash.
• This course introduces Adobe Flash, a development tool for creating animations used on the web. Understanding the differences between bitmap and vector graphics allows a web designer to make key decisions about which is more appropriate in a given circumstance. In addition, it explores specific instances where Flash can be used in a site and how it can be used effectively.
• Students will also be introduced to the concept of symbols. Symbols are one of the basic concepts of Flash, so it’s important to get a good understanding of them. Symbols are original copies of objects used within Flash. Flash then makes copies of the originals when doing animation -- these copies are called instances of a symbol.
