This beginning Linux course teaches students how to install, configure and administer Linux as a network operating system. Emphasis is placed on applied skills that address real-world challenges such as managing file structure, network services and system security.Linux (pronounced Lye-nucks or Lyn-icks) was named for its author Linus Torvalds and is based on the UNIX operating system. This course gives students an overview of the history of UNIX and then describes the origin of Linux. The class will see the first communication from Torvalds to the Internet community and review the purpose of a multiuser, multitasking, multithreaded operating system.Students will also begin to study the installation of the SUSE Linux Enterprise System, including a review of hardware compatibility, file system types, disk configurations and partitioning, software package selection and installation utilities. Next, participants will learn to document your SUSE installation and perform a baseline system analysis.For system health and maintenance, it’s essential individuals have thorough documentation that details system configuration settings, system issues and corrective actions and a baseline of normal system performance. This documentation supports system recovery and provides a system history that is key to administering the system.
