This advanced course in Microsoft Windows enterprise administration teaches students to install, configure and manage key network services and the Active Directory. Students perform administrative tasks such as network service installation and configuration, Active Directory installation, Group Policy design and configuration and configuration of network and Active Directory security. They will also learn the theory behind Active Directory design and operation and complete hands-on labs and projects that develop the skills they will need to know in the real world. Most computers communicate across a network. As the sending computer prepares information to be sent on the network, each component of network functionality encapsulates the information with a header. The receiving computer must understand the header at each layer of functionality. The Transport Driver Interface (Windows Sockets or NetBIOS) connects application data with the Transport layer protocol while the important contents of the Data Link layer (e.g. Ethernet) header are the destination MAC address, the source MAC address and the protocol at the next-higher level that receives the message. A Global Catalog (GC) server contains information about all objects in an Active Directory. The GC server enables users to find information about AD objects, supplies authentication information for and ensures uniqueness of User Principal Names (UPNs).
