Home > Online IT Degrees > Writing for the Web
An essential part of any website is the content, which consists of text and visual images; however, it is the text that usually “tells” the web users what a particular site is about. In this course, students will learn effective techniques for presenting content in websites as well as study basic terminology and methods to present content in a clear and concise format. They will also learn basic marketing concepts involved in developing web content.
When writing for the web, one must keep in mind the main rules for this style of writing. Writing for the web is much different from writing for a print outlet. By the end of this course, students will be able to organize web material to make it easier for the user to read text on the web. Providing well-structured information is one of the main goals of any site.
This course discusses various techniques one can use to help the users navigate a website and find information they are looking for in a quick and efficient manner. These techniques are often referred to as the navigation clues, which are created through linear text and include different ways of organizing and presenting the text. Students will discuss and practice with recognizing and organizing navigation clues, which includes hypertext, the navigation buttons, headlines, subheads and blurbs.
By the end of the course, students will be able to describe the differences between print and online media and know how to organize web content in a Web site. They will apply the elements of web style to a web page as well as specific marketing concepts.
